Senator Menendez questions Almagro at hearing on Venezuela political crisis, OAS resolution vote

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez engages Organization of American States Secretary General Luis Almagro at a hearing on political unrest in Venezuela. Menendez reads from AlmagroÂ’s statement that close to one person per day have been killed in protests in Caracas, including young and students, hundreds of human rights investigations opened, resources appropriated by the Nicholas Maduro government with blood on its hands, which he calls a powerful statement. Menendez lists OAS members that abstained from a vote regarding that country, Antigua and Barbuda, Ecuador, El Salvador, Granada, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and those who voted no, Bolivia, Dominica, Nicaragua, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Almagro says the importance of the resolution was to create a group of friends to deal with the Venezuelan case but two weeks beforehand mediators proposed solutions but cannot begin their work out of concern for Venezuela.
