BBC reporter, John Tidmarsh, interviews Harry Belafonte on his involvement with the Selma to Montgomery marches and organising the Stars for Freedom rally; 24th March 1965. JT: “Are you going to take part in this march tomorrow?â€HB: “Yes. Uh, we would’ve taken part in it sooner, or would’ve, but Dr. King request that I organized as many artists as were available to come down to perform tonight and to participate tomorrow in the march, so that’s why I’m down here.â€JT: “Can you tell me who you’ve managed to get here?â€HB: “Uh, gee! First I think it’s only to say that all of who wanted to come couldn’t make it but those that are here, Sammy Davis Jr, Odetta, Ossie Davis, Mr Tony Perkins, Miss Shelley Winters, Mr Leonard Bernstein… many, many peopleâ€.JT: “Just very briefly, ‘cause they’re trying to drag you away; what are your views of this extraordinary demonstration?
