The Lighthouse of Alexandria (named after the island of Pharos, on which it stood) was the highest known lighthouse of its kind and one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The tower is said to have been about 393 to 450 ft (115 to 160 meters) high and was for many centuries the tallest structure of the humanity, until it was destroyed in 1303 AD by an earthquake.
