Antique photograph of panoramic view of Rossio Square, or Pedro IV Square or Praça de D. Pedro IV or Praça do Rossio in Portuguese, which is a large monumental square in the Pombaline Downtown of the city of Lisbon (Estremadura, Portugal) as it appeared in the 19th century. The square features some monumental buildings such as the neoclassical National Theatre D. Maria II (Teatro Nacional D. Maria II) and next to it the red ‘Palace of Independence’ or Palace of the Almadas and other 18th and 19th century buildings with cafes and shops. In the middle of the square there is also the Column of Pedro IV, surrounded by a paved area (Portuguese pavement) with the particular Portuguese Patterns surrounded by a line of trees. In the background the high part of the city with the Lisbon Castle hill.
