A tourist attraction amongst the glitterati of Victorian times - Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert were among the famous visitors to venture under the sea! In 1865, there were 500 employees at Botallack with 11 steam engines in the large site. Two ruined engine houses can still be seen today.
