Carpal tunnel - stock illustration

Carpal tunnel. On the palmar side of the wrist, we can see an anatomical canal called the carpal tunnel. The tendons and the median nerve pass through this canal, which allow the fingers to flex. When the median nerve is compressed by the annular ligament of the carpus, we speak of carpal tunnel syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by tingling and numbness in the fingers. There is also a loss of muscle strength in the thumb. This syndrome is relatively common in postmenopausal women
