Fall on Mont Blanc, France on August 21, 1891: Mr. Hermann Rothe from Braunschweig with the guide Michel Simond and a porter, and Count G. de Faverney with two guides and a porter, intended to climb Mont Blanc together, set out from the Grands Mulets on August 20 and were forced by the storm to spend the night in the Cabane des Bosses. As the storm did not let up the next morning, they started the way back, accompanied by the workers of the hut, who wanted to get provisions in Chamonix. The whole group, 11 people, went together in a column! On the steep descent to the Petit Plateau they were surprised by an avalanche that threw five men into a crevasse. Count Faverney, the guide Comte and a porter were pulled out alive, Rothe and Simond could only be recovered dead several days later, as a second avalanche made further rescue attempts on the same day impossible.
