This nineteenth-century engraving illustrates the expansive Trapeznikov estate, a significant architectural landmark located on the western side of Ivanovskaya Square in Irkutsk. Originally built between 1798 and 1802, the site underwent several major reconstructions, most notably after the devastating Great Fire of 1879. By 1885, under the direction of architect Y. Gofman, the building was redesigned and expanded to include a third floor, achieving the refined neoclassical facade seen here with its three distinct mansard roofs and ornate decorative moldings. Historically, this building served multiple prominent roles in Siberian life: The "Moscow Compound" Hotel: For a period in the 1880s, the estate was repurposed as the Irkutsk Hotel "Moscow Compound" (Moskovskoye Podvorye), one of the city's premiere accommodations.Judicial Center: On July 2, 1887, following a decree by Emperor Alexander III, the building was officially opened as the seat of Irkutsk’s judicial institutions. Military Court: In October 1889, it also began housing the newly established Irkutsk Military District Court and the military prosecutor's office.
