William the Bastard, the Duke of France (later also known as William I the Conqueror, (1027/28 - 1087), demanded of Harald Hardrada Sigurdsson (also Harold Godwinson, 1022 - 1066, from 1047 King of Norway), after the death of Edward, him to help to take possession of England. Harald later commits perjury, and it comes to the Battle of Hastings, in which he dies. Wood engraving after a drawing by Paul Joseph Leyendecker (German painter, 1842 - 1891/98), published in 1881.
