Layer of stanene, molecular model - stock illustration
Molecular model of a sheet of stanene showing the low buckled structure that is predicted from density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Stanene has a similar honeycomb structure to graphene but is composed of tin atoms. With the addition of fluorine atoms, it is thought that it can achieve 100% efficiency as an electrical conductor. The first fabrication of stanene was achieved in August, 2015, by researchers in America and China.
