This monochrome architectural line illustration displays a highly detailed Ionic column capital originating from the famous Erechtheion temple complex on the Acropolis of Athens in Greece. The structure showcases the defining components of the classical Ionic order, dominated by two large, symmetrical spiral scrolls or volutes that frame the central shaft and connect via a smoothly dipping horizontal canalis line. Positioned directly beneath this primary scroll element is an echinus molding richly embellished with a carved egg-and-dart pattern, resting above a decorative necking band detailed with elegant, repeating palmette and anthemion floral motifs. The entire composition is supported by the upper segment of a vertically fluted stone column shaft and crowned by a thin, ornamented abacus block at the absolute peak. Masterfully carved from Pentelic marble to represent the height of the elegant, feminine proportions of classical Athenian stonemasonry in Greece, this monumental architectural element was originally created during the 5th century BC.
