Louise de La Vallière entering the Carmelite convent - stock illustration
Louise de La Vallière was mistress of the French king Louis XIV from 1661 onwards. She gave birth to several children and was ousted in his favor in 1667 by Madame de Montespan, after which she had to stay at court until 1674. At the age of 30 she entered a Carmelite convent and lived there until her death 36 years later. Illustration from 19th century.
