Historical view of the rack railway to the Niederwald monument near Rüdesheim am Rhein, Hesse, Germany. The Rüdesheim–Niederwaldd monument railway was a 2.3-kilometre-long, one-meter-gauge rack railway from the Rüdesheim am Rhein valley station to the Niederwalddenkmal mountain station, which was operated by the Niederwald-Bahn-Gesellschaft (NWB). It was in operation from 1884 to 1917 and from 1925 to 1939 during the summer season. After war damage in World War II, it was not rebuilt and was demolished. Wood engraving after drawings by C. Hartmuth (German painter, 19th century), published in 1885.
