Scenes from the new Children's Ward of the Mildmay Mission Hospital in the late 19th century - stock illustration
Four scenes in the late 19th century Children’s Ward at the charity-run Mildmay Mission Hospital in East London. The Mildmay Hospital traces its origins back to the mid-1860s and was based in a former warehouse in Shoreditch. In 1892 a purpose-built hospital was opened; as a small ‘cottage hospital’, however, it was closed in 1982. The hospital reopened as an AIDS hospice in 1988 and now has a new state-of-the-art building in Tabernacle Gardens, Shoreditch. From “The Cottager and Artisan: The People’s Own Paper†published in 1898 by The Religious Tract Society, London.
