Surface Tension of Water demonstrated by a Water Strider. Water striders can "walk" on water, sometimes they're called pond skaters or Jesus bugs. The attraction between water molecules creates tension and a very thin, delicate membane at the air-water interface. Also, the legs of the water strider are relatively thin and long to spread out the weight. The ends of the legs in contact with the water have very tiny hairs that capture air and repel water the captured air allows them to float. Family Gerridae (water striders).
