The assassination of Wallenstein: After his unauthorized and secret peace efforts had failed to produce any results, a secret court condemned him for treason – mainly at the instigation of the Spanish Habsburgs. On the night of February 25th, Wallenstein was murdered in Eger (Czech: Cheb) by some high-ranking Scottish and Irish officers of his unit. Albrecht von Wallenstein (1583 - 1634) was the supreme commander of the armies of the Habsburg Monarchy and one of the major figures of the Thirty Years' War. Lithograph, published in 1850.
