Ventral view of a Springtail, specifically labeled here as Achorutes purpurescens (now more commonly classified under the genus Hypogastrura) - stock illustration

Springtails are fascinating little hexapods. Even though they have six legs, they aren't technically classified as insects anymore—they're part of a group called Collembola.Key Features Shown in the Drawing:The Furcula (The "Spring"): While this is a view from underneath, you can see the structure near the rear that allows them to "jump." They keep a tail-like appendage tucked under their abdomen with a tension-release mechanism; when threatened, they release it, snapping it against the ground to fling themselves into the air.The Collophore: If you look closely at the first segment of the abdomen (just below the last pair of legs), there's a small tube-like structure. This is used for water uptake and sticking to surfaces.Segmented Body: You can clearly see the distinct head, the three segments of the thorax (each with a pair of legs), and the segmented abdomen.
