A depiction of Hyde Park, in London, as it might be if the plans of the Victorian Acclimatisation Societies succeeded in increasing animal varieties and population of Great Britain with specimens from all over the world. The first of these societies was founded in Paris in 1854 and they grew rapidly in popularity. From “Punch Almanack for 1865”. Punch was a British magazine newspaper founded in 1841, famous for its humorous and satirical cartoons which were created by some of the foremost illustrators of the day: the Almanack was a supplement.
