Female graduates were a rarity, even in the late 19th century. From a bound volume of copies of “Punch Almanack†for 1865-79. Punch was a British magazine newspaper founded in 1841, famous for its humorous and satirical cartoons which were created by some of the foremost illustrators of the day: the Almanack was a supplement.
