An Islamic library and shop are shuttered in a mostly Arabic stretch of Atlantic Avenue in the borough of Brooklyn, New York, 13 September, 2001. Many of the stores in this area have been closed since the terrorist bombing of the World Trade Center 11 September, 2001. US President George W. Bush 13 September warned US citizens not to target Arab Americans and Muslims, as suspicions mount that overseas Islamic extremists may have plotted coordinated terror attacks on US soil. "We must be mindful that, as we seek to win the war, that we treat Arab Americans and Muslims with the respect they deserve," Bush said in a conference call with New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and New York state Governor George Pataki.
