Charles Goodyear
circa 1850: Charles Goodyear (1800-1860). American inventor. Experimented with rubber, c.1830, bought patent rights to a sulfur process in 1838. Developed a vulcanization process in 1839, patented in 1844. Today, this is the basic patent for all rubber manufacturing.
