Model hospital sterilizer or autoclave, English, c 1935.
UNITED KINGDOM - FEBRUARY 13: A chromium-plated autoclave, made by Chas F Thackray Ltd of Leeds and London. It was probably used by travelling salespeople for demonstrations. Autoclaves were invented in the 1880s to sterilize instruments with high pressure, super heated steam. Surgical instruments were nickel or chrome plated to withstand this.
