Flag Retirement Ceremony At Sleepy Hollow Cemetery
CONCORD, MA - NOVEMBER 11: Concord FIre Department Chief Kenneth Willett feeds old and tattered flags into the fire during a retirement ceremony at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery early Tuesday morning. The local ceremony was started in 1965 because many cemetery flags had been left in place through the winter months and by spring their torn and faded condition did not honor the national colors or the departed veterans. Each November 11 the local citizens can also bring their own flags to the ceremony. (Photo by Joanne Rathe/The Boston Globe via Getty Images)
