Louis Leakey Looking Over Rare Skull
(Original Caption) Dr. Louis Leakey, A Kenya-born anthropologist, looks over a rare skull which is believed to be 1,750,000 years old. Found in 1959 by the scientist's wife, the skull is said to be that of a Zinjanthropus, one of the first humans on Earth. Recently, Dr. Leakey presented the discovery to President Julius Nyerere of Tanzania. It was uncovred in Tanzania's Oduvai Gorge in the Serengeti Plain.
