(Original Caption) New York: Earl Browder Starts Jail Sentence. Earl Browder, former secretary of the Communist Party of America (Center), is flanked by his brother William (left), and Robert E. Minor, who succeeds court to start serving a four-year prison term. Earl Browder was convicted for putting fraudulent information on a passport blank. During the first World War he was sentenced to two years in Leavenworth penitentiary and this marks the second time he will be incarcerated during a war period. The addition penalty, a $2,000 fine was paid by Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, communist party official.
