Maryland Law Bans Spanking In Schools
CATONSVILLE, MD -AUGUST 09: Eric and his wife Tara Ebersole photographed at their home in Catonsville ,Maryland on August 09, 2023. This spring, Gov. Moore signed a law banning corporal punishment in private and religious schools, as well as daycares -- closing a loophole in state law. It takes effect in the new school year. The legislation began with a Baltimore County community college professor who bitterly recalled an early experience as a teacher in Tennessee having to paddle kids in k-12 schools.Tara Ebersole discovered that state law did not apply to nonpublic schools, and asked her lawmaker-husband to sponsor a bill.
