GUNNISON, COLORADO, APRIL 11, 2007- ABOVE: John M. Scott <cq> District Conservationist for the US Department of Agriculture Natual Resources Conservation Service <cq>, along with many others in the community, has been intergral in helping to save the Gunnison Sage grouse. He has worked with the town, ranchers, wildlife officials and town residents in ways to improve the habitat for the bird and to protect it. There are only about 5,100 of these birds left in the world. As part of the effort to help save and protect the Gunnison Sage Grouse, officials have mowed hundreds of acres of sagebrush to open up areas for the bird to nest, feed, mate and raise their young. This patch of mowed sagebrush land is on the 4,000 acre ranch belonging to Craig Haase <cq>. PHOTO BY HELEN H. RICHARDSON (Photo By Helen H. Richardson/The Denver Post via Getty Images)
