Magic Lantern slide circa 1900 hand coloured. created in 1887. A tour of North Wales. ,Valle Crucis Abbey, of which an exterior view is shewn. This hue old ecclesiastical ruin stands in a meadow by the river, about two miles North-west of Llangollen. It was founded about the year 1200 as a house of Cistercians, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It afterwards became crown property, and was at a later period granted by James I. to Lord Wotton. Some parts are in a good state of preservation, and the whole buildåÂing bears marks of very fine workmanship and noble architecture.(Photo by: Universal History Archive/Universal Images Group via Getty Images)
