Nicholas Biddle
circa 1830: Nicholas Biddle (1786 - 1844). American financier. Appointed by President Monroe as a director of the Bank of the United States 1819, elected its president 1822. He became the center of an attack by President Andrew Jackson against the bank, charging that it was a monopoly working against Jackson's presidency. Engraved by J. B. Longacre and T.B.
