circa 1830: Peter Richings (1797-1871). American actor. Debuted, New Park Theatre, New York, 1821, as Henry Bertram in 'Guy Mannering.' A popular stock actor there for many years appearing in 'The Spy' 1824, 'The Red Rover' 1828, 'The Wigwam' 1830, 'Water Witch' 1831, all dramatizations of James Fennimore Cooper's works as well as Shakespearean roles including Caliban in 'The Tempest' and here, as Mercutio in 'Romeo and Juliet' (Photo by Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
