Saturday, June 30, 2012 -- The Maine Historical Society hosted a 19th century baseball doubleheader at Fort Williams park in Cape Elizabeth. The Dirigo baseball club from Augusta played the Essex baseball club from Newburyport, Massachusetts using the baseball rules and customs of the 1860's and playing in period uniforms. An Essex baserunner steals second base as Dirigo shortstop Devan Eaton,(left) of Litchfield, takes the throw and second baseman Rob Rodriquez, of Cornish, backs up the play.
