Seven endangered light-footed Ridgway's rails were released in to the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge on Tuesday October 1, 2019 as part of an ongoing program to to try and stabilize the once abundant birds in an effort led by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and many other partners. Mike and Patricia McCoy, far right side of the group, are heralded as the people who helped save the largest coastal wetland in Southern California in the 1970s and 80s.
