Raising Funds for Defense of Townsend Movement
Sheaves of bills were thrust into the hands of this sergeant-at-arms at the Townsend Convention in Cleveland, after the thundering appeal of the Rev. Gerald L.K. Smith to raise a defense fund against the receivership suit filed by outsted Townsend leaders. More than $15,000 was contributed or pledged in the wild rush of hundreds to the platform after Smith's speech.
