Hubbard Glacier Advancing
A shot of the Hubbard Glacier from 12,600 feet, during an advance. The huge glacier stretches out from the St. Elias Mountains all the way to the sea at Disenchantment Bay, where it leaves cloudy deposits of dirt and ice. It sometimes advances as far as Gilbert's Point (bottom), cutting off the Russell Fjord. Ripples in the water show where the glacier has recently "calved." Southeast Alaska, 1972.
