Sir Ian McKellen Visits Shakespears First Playhouse Site
LONDON - MARCH 19: Sir Ian McKellen signature is seen in the visitor's book at a site uncovered by the Museum of London and believed to be London's first purpose-built playhouse on March 19, 2009 in London, England. The location of this first purpose built playhouse, called The Theatre, constructed in 1576 by James Burbage, has been confirmed by Museum of London Archaeology following investigation of the site, a disused warehouse, in Shoreditch east London. Shakespeare wrote and performed at The Theatre between 1594-7 and it is thought that Romeo and Juliet was premiered there. (Photo by Tim Whitby/Getty Images)
