9th April 1955: A student at the Scottish College of Dramatic Art in Glasgow standing in front of a poster advertising the famous Edinburgh Festival of Music and Drama. The college offers practical courses on sound engineering, set building, costume design and stage management as well as acting technique. The college is part of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music; students are able to share their stage and stage equipment for the final show which is directed by a London producer. Although the College of Dramatic Art has only been running this course for five years, three-quarters of its graduates have found work and there are opportunities for walk-on parts in productions at the local Citizens' Theatre.
