Locally Invented Heavy Oil Recovery Device (HORD) Demo
Terry Everett inserts the final piece of a HORD, Heavy Oil Recovery Device, at J&S Machine Works in Irvington, Alabama, U.S., on Thursday, July 8, 2010. Invented by local Captain Jerry Matherne, each subsurface device holds two porous polypropylene bags that will soon be used to collect oil in the Gulf. The device was developed in response to the BP Plc Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana, which started when a leased Transocean Ltd. oil rig exploded on April 20.
