Sony Watchman FD210 pocket television receiver, c 1984.
UNITED KINGDOM - NOVEMBER 23: The Watchman is the name given by Sony to its portable pocket television devices. This model cost ?268 when new. It was launched in Japan in 1982 (and in Britain in 1984) and was the first mass produced pocket television. It had a 2-inch black and white picture and weighed around 650 grams. It never had the success of its forerunner, the Sony Walkman, because people quickly realised that you couldn't walk around whilst watching it, and the screen was just too small to be watched comfortably.
