EGYPT-JELLYFISHS-FEATURE

Thousands of jellyfish, ( Aurelia Aurita ), float at the surface in Ras Um Sid diving point of Ras Mohammed pretection area near Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, 08 July 2005. Jellyfish are among the least loved creatures of the sea due to the strong stinging power of some species. Really they are beautiful and fragile beings with a sophisticated system for catching their food. Jellyfish drift with the current or move slowly rhythmically contracting their umbrella, trailing long fine filaments armed with stinging cells ( nematocysts ) which at the least contact inject a powerful paralysing poison. The Red Sea , enclosed by 2000 kilometres of coast line in between the Arabic peninsula and the African contient, is one of the most fascinating natural environments of the world. Its waters are populated by an incredible variety of beautiful fish, shell fish, coral reefs and invertenrates, many of which are endemic and live only in this environment.
