(Original Caption) To seek Senate nomination as Coughlin champion...Gerald L.K. Smith, one-time Lieutenant of the late Huey Long, and now editor and publisher of The Cross and the Flag, as he looks over the first copy of the publication with his associate editor, Bernard A. Doman, (right). Smith announced, April 16th, that he is considering seeking the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, in Michigan, as a champion of Father Charles E. Coughlin.
