(Original Caption) Tommy Kono Wins World Title. Munich, Germany: American light heavyweight Tommy Kono, of Sacramento, Calif., lifts 165 kilograms (approximately 364 pounds) in the clean and jerk contest in the light heavyweight weight division of the weight lifting world championship. Kono went on to win the world title in his class with a total lift of 435 kilograms (approximately 959 pounds) in the three event Olympic contest. Second was Soviet athlete Stepanov, and third place went to Jim George.
