Of the some 100 towers orinally standing in the Felsineo center, the Prendiparte Tower is one of the few remaining towers in Bologna that rises above the rooftops. Many other towers, decapitated during wars and battles, have been destroyed or disappeared within luxurious private courtyards. Thanks to the many improvements and much restauration, the tower is again inhabitable. The tower has a terrace: 'La Coronata' (crowned one), a name linked to a crown-like decoration that embellishes the sides of the tower. It was built in the 12th century by the powerful Guelf family Prendiparte, and for a long time the tower was used as a military stronghold. In 1588 it was sold to become the Mensa dell'Arcivescovado, the canteen of the Archdiocese, and connected to the seminary located on the west side of the tower.
