William Charles Macready (1793-1873), English tragic actor, famous in Shakespearian roles, managed Covent Garden 1837-9, the Drury Lane Theater, 1841-43, his rivalry from 1826 with American actor Edwin Forrest led to the Astor Place Riot, NYC, on May 10, 1849.
