William Polk
circa 1810: William Polk (1758-1834). Continental soldier / legislator. A teenage major of NC militia 1776, fought at Germantown and Brandywine PA 1777, at Camden SC 1780, and Guildford Court House NC 1781. Commanded a SC cavalry unit as lieutenant colonel 1782. Postwar, a surveyor general of NC, successful banker, promoter of a river navigation company, and managed election campaigns of Andrew Jackson in NC in the 1820s.
