Vessel Elements are one of the cell types found in Xylem, a major conducting tissue found in vascular plants. Xylem functions in the conduction of water and dissolved substances like minerals, from roots to leaves and other parts of the plant. Vessel elements have openings at both ends called perforations or perforation plates. Vessel elements when placed end to end form vessels that conduct water. Pits are visible on the surface of the vessel elements. Vessel elements are dead cells. Also shown are several fibers for support.
