Benign prostate stromal hyperplasia, light micrograph - stock photo
Light micrograph of prostatic stromal hyperplastic nodule. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a process that is common with age in many men. It consists of growth of benign nodules in the prostate which can cause symptoms by obstructing urine flow. The nodules can be composed of stromal cells, such as the example here. The stromal cell nuclei are the dark blue slightly elongated dots, and the stromal cells are present within a myxoid background (light blue). Another characteristic feature of benign stromal nodules is the presence of blood vessels with thickened walls (pink). The blood vessels are identified by the red blood cells (bright red) in their lumens (white spaces). Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10cm
