Light micrograph of an ovarian corpus albicans. A corpus albicans is the fibrous remnant of the corpus luteum, a structure which forms following ovulation or release of an ovum from the ovary. The corpus albicans is seen here in the top half of the image (pink), whereas most of the bottom half of the image shows ovarian stromal cells and connective tissue (dark purple elongated dots with thin pink strands). A few red blood cells (bright red dots) inside tiny blood vessels are also seen. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10cm
