Light micrograph of an ovarian corpus albicans. A corpus albicans is the fibrous remnant of the corpus luteum, a structure which forms following ovulation or release of an ovum from the ovary. The corpus albicans is seen here occupying most of the centre of the image (pink), whereas most of the periphery of the image shows ovarian stromal cells admixed with connective tissue (dark purple elongated dots admixed with thin pink strands). Scattered red blood cells (bright red dots) inside tiny blood vessels are also seen. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10cm
