This oblique aerial photo shows patterned cultivated land in the fertile soil plains of the Darling Downs district, inland from Toowoomba, southern Queensland, Australia. Thick fertile soils have formed on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range and the black soils are productive for the growing of many crops. The region has developed a strong agricultural industry and is well known for growing crops of wheat, cotton, barley and sorghum. The region is intensively cultivated, even the old dried up river channels which form black ribbons in this flat, vast landscape.
