Lanthanum deposits in duodenum, light micrograph - stock photo
Light micrograph of lanthanum deposits in a duodenal villous. Lanthanum carbonate is a drug used to reduce abnormally high phosphate blood levels. In some patients taking lanthanum carbonate, lanthanum can deposit in the duodenum and cause symptoms in these patients. In this image, lanthanum deposits are the many tiny brown-red shiny dots within a duodenal villous (the roughly ovoid structure occupying most of the image). Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10cm
